We are an Official Family Safety Plan Music School!

In order to keep our students, staff, and teachers safe, we have implemented the Family Safety Plan in our schools! This includes glass windows on lesson rooms to foster transparency between teachers and parents, full-time office staff so that students and teachers are never left unsupervised, requiring extensive background checks of all of our teachers and staff, security cameras in all rooms, and an open-door policy for parents, which means that they’re always invited to sit in on their child’s lessons. 12 Benefits of becoming a Providence School of Music Student

instructor and student playing guitar

1. The only music school in Providence that offers all these popular instruments under one roof: Piano, electric & acoustic Guitar, Drum set, Bass, Ukulele, Strings, and Woodwinds.

This saves our students time and money, as one family can take lessons for different instruments on the same day in the same location. Other studios offer multiple instruments, but we are the only one to offer all of the most popular instruments in one convenient, safe, high quality environment. You get the BEST music lesson experience that no one else in Providence can offer.

2. The largest and most qualified teaching faculty in Providence.

We have 25 music teachers, all with either college training or professional performance experience. Our music teachers are dedicated to learning about your personal musical goals and helping you to achieve them. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the style of music you want to learn.

3. We teach children and adults at all levels, from beginner to advanced.

If you are a complete beginner and have never taken a musical instrument lesson in your life, you’ve come to the right place!

We've also helped many professional and experienced musicians achieve higher levels.

We are equally able to teach a new beginner their very first song as we are preparing a Berklee College of Music applicant for their audition.

Our rooms are stocked with everything you need for music lessons, including acoustic upright and grand pianos, electronic keyboards, amps, drum kits, and more. All you need to bring is your instrument.

Meet the Director

Phil Mazza is the founder and director of the Providence School of Music. Phil holds a BA in jazz performance and an MM in classical composition from the University of Rhode Island, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is a recipient of various grants such as the Bobby Hackett Jazz Scholarship and the Antonio Cirino Memorial Art Education Fellowship from the RI Foundation.

Since 2003, Phil has been an integral part of the Providence music community through education, performing in jazz ensembles, and commissioning his own classical works. A dedicated music advocate, Phil has been teaching guitar, composition, and music theory to students of various ages and experience levels for over 15 years.

In the Summer of 2017, Phil decided it was time to use his experience to form the Providence Guitar Academy, which has now expanded into the Providence School of Music.

The ability to play an instrument or sing beautifully offers a lifetime of benefits. Music lessons also foster a student’s personal, social and academic development. The Providence School of Music has made substantial investments in our new facility and elite faculty to create an uplifting setting designed to foster creativity, confidence and joy.

I highly recommend Providence School of Music!!! Phil has the rare talent of staying calm and patient while making the learning experience fun. It is obvious that he really enjoys teaching. Jake, 5 years old, looks forward lessons, practicing and showing off what he has learned. Finding the right music teacher is so important and we hit the jackpot with Phil.
